How to Realistically Incorporate Self-Care into Your Everday Life
I myself have been figuring this out for the past few years.
The online advice seems empty and needs more practical application than many seek.
I didn’t buy into the 5 AM club, and figuring out my own self-care has been a journey of self-discovery and, most importantly, trial and error.
Some days, meditation works a charm; on others, I can’t seem to sit still, and I feel constantly distracted by my thoughts.
Walking, moving, grooving, and napping are all tools I use to help bring moments of calm into my day and listen to what I need. I also like listening to podcasts, doing some skincare, swimming, and catching up with friends if my social battery is up for it.
These are some of the things I do for self-care, but the beauty is that there is no right way to do it.
Here are 5 strategies I’ve found helpful in adopting self-care:
- Listen to Your Needs:
Each day brings different challenges and opportunities. Some days, I need Rest. On other days, exercise or deep focus on work is more appropriate. Tuning into what I need at the moment helps me stay balanced.
2. Embrace Rest
I’ve learned to accept that resting is just as productive as working. It’s about recharging my energy so I can be at my best.
3. Limit Technology Use:
I limit my screen time when it’s unnecessary. This helps me stay present and reduces digital fatigue.
4. Finding Positivity:
Actively looking for the positive aspects in situations is incredibly healing. It helps me maintain a constructive and optimistic mindset.
5. Mindful Media Consumption:
Being conscious of the content I consume on media is crucial. I choose media that uplifts and informs me, avoiding content that drains or misleads.
We all have different ways to reconnect with ourselves and engage with self-care. Have a go and figure out what you need in your tool kit.
